The Beginning

Founded by John Dowley, who remained at the helm until the early nineties, this privately run family business has maintained its niche in the marketplace for over forty years by providing and maintaining a high quality service to its customers.

The name 'Fullers' came about by a stroke of luck (it has nothing to do with the famous brewery of the same name). In 1961 JD realised there was potential in road haulage. However in those days you needed an A, B, or C licence and qualification was complicated. He used to use a garage in W London called Fullers Garage and one day he noticed a truck parked-up with the name 'Fullers Transport' on its side. Now this lorry had the all important 'A' licence displayed in the windscreen and after a few visits he noticed that the truck hadn't moved. John made tentative enquiries. A deal was struck, he purchased the vehicle to acquire the much coveted 'A' licence and retained the name 'Fullers'.

JD's first big break came in 1963 when he was awarded a contract by a famous confectionery manufacturer in Slough to collect milk powder from Sheerness.

The business gradually expanded and in 1966 Fullers won a contract to deliver finished product from a factory in Slough to a Distribution Centre in Bedfont. At the same time Fullers' leased a yard in Bedfont which became their base for the next seven years.
