The Nineties

Saw the semi-retirement of John Dowley as Chairman and the succession of his son Tony Dowley as MD of the business.

Tony took the business into pastures new with the acquisition of Clan International transport in Dover which is ideally situated to service the international market through both the port and channel tunnel.

The expansion into temperature controlled distribution with the purchase of a new fleet of refrigerated trailers brought new opportunities for business growth in a niche market.

In 1992 Fullers opened up a depot in Birmingham and negotiated contracts with two blue chip companies based in the Midlands.

An additional dedicated warehouse facility was opened in Dunstable in 1992. Shortly afterwards a contract for delivering fresh meals and sandwiches using a small fleet of temperature controlled vans based in Melton Mowbray was awarded to the Transport Division.

In 1994, to complement the growing network, Fullers were successful in negotiating a contract for the nation-wide distribution of frozen bread products from a manufacturer based in Southall, West London.
