Why it matters

Kitting services for faster, smarter fulfilment

If you’re looking for ways to enhance your buyer journey, boost loyalty and increase revenue, giving your customers what they want – in new and exciting ways – is the answer. We’re talking about kitting – assembling a box of complementary products in a single unit with a single SKU that is ready to ship.

The global kitting service market is surging at 8.47% CAGR. If your brand isn’t leveraging kitting, it risks falling behind your competitors who are already scaling smarter. By 2029 kitting is estimated to be worth $1.5 billion.

Will your brand still be using same-old fulfilment, or will you be one of your sector’s winners?

Work with us

From receipt to dispatch

Our kitting services cover the entire process from receiving products, packaging them in a single kit, quality checks and shipping.

Picking items for kits

+

Components are picked to a kit pallet or pick station using pick lists, barcode scanning, or batch/pick-to-cart workflows. For kits that require high levels of hygiene, designated clean rooms are created for the duration of assembly.

For high volumes we use batch or zone picking to reduce travel time; for low volumes or bespoke kits we may pick to order. The goal is to gather every component efficiently and with scan-back verification to avoid missing items.

Assembly in the kitting area

+

Assembly happens at a dedicated kit station or controlled area with clear build instructions. Our team follows a step sequence: insert products, add inserts or instructions, apply inner packaging, and close the kit.

Quality checks

+

Every kit goes through a defined quality process, including visual checks, contents/weight validation, and barcode scans for each component. Batch/serial numbers are captured and logged in the WMS to provide full traceability.

Storage or shipping

+

Finished kits are either stored as a new kit SKU (ready for sale) or moved straight to dispatch. Kits can be staged by channel (e.g., ecommerce, retail, PR) and are handled as required. For kitting-to-order, assembly and immediate shipping are coordinated to minimise inventory holding.

Kitting services FAQ

What is kitting?

+

Kitting is the pre-assembly of multiple individual products or components into a single packaged unit that is shipped as one SKU.

Kitting brings separate items together, for example a moisturiser + inner box + thank-you card, or several travel-size toiletries, and packages them so customers receive a single, branded unit. It reduces picking steps, simplifies inventory at dispatch, and creates a consistent customer experience for samples, gift sets, launches and subscription extras.

How does kitting differ from bundling?

+

Kitting is assembling in advance, while bundling (kitting on request) is grouping or packaging at the moment of dispatch.

With kitting you create a new physical SKU ahead of time (the kit), which is then stored or shipped as one item. Bundling usually happens at order fulfilment, items are picked and packed as needed. Kitting lowers per-order picking time and error rates, while bundling is more flexible for ad-hoc combinations but slower at scale.

What does a typical kitting workflow look like?

+

In essence, we receive components, stage & pick, assemble in a kit area, quality check, label & pack, store or ship

1. Receiving & inspection: Components arrive and are checked against PO/quality specs.
2. Staging/picking: Components are picked to a kit pallet or pick station.
3. Assembly: Items are assembled into the kit (in a dedicated kitting area).
4. Quality control: Visual checks, weight/contents checks conducted as required.
5. Labelling & documentation: Apply kit SKU labels, batch/lot info, any regulatory or shipping labels.
6. Storage or dispatch: Kits are stored for launch or moved straight to fulfilment.
7. Returns/rework (if needed): Un-kitting, inspection and restock or disposal if components fail quality inspection.

Do you offer pre-kitting and kitting-to-order?

+

Yes, here at Fullers, both approaches are common and chosen based on the product, demand pattern and campaign needs.

• Pre-kitting (build in advance): Ideal for launches, promotions, PR samples and retail displays where immediate dispatch and uniform presentation are critical.
• Kitting-to-order (on demand): Useful for variable kits, highly personalised boxes or when components are scarce/expensive and you want to minimise inventory risk.

Choice depends on lead times, forecast accuracy and whether speed at launch or inventory flexibility is the priority.

What equipment, areas or cleanroom standards are used?

+

Kitting uses dedicated kit stations and can include controlled/clean assembly areas and specialised equipment, tailored to the product’s needs.

Common elements include ergonomic packing tables, label/serialization printers, barcode scanners, weighing scales, or clean areas. For high-precision or beauty products we can operate in restricted access kit zones with enhanced cleaning and client-specified handling protocols.

What are the benefits of kitting

+

Faster fulfilment, fewer pick errors, improved customer experience, and better support for launches and promotions.

Benefits include:

• Speed: Pre-assembled kits ship faster and reduce labour per order
• Accuracy: Single-SKU picking reduces mis-picks and order errors
• Experience: Consistent, branded unboxing helps conversions and customer satisfaction
• Marketing enablement: Ready stock for PR, events and influencer sends
• Inventory simplicity: Easier tracking and forecasting at kit SKU level
• Cost efficiency: Lower labour and packing time per sale at scale

How does pre-kitting improve launch readiness and promotions?

+

It creates ready-to-ship inventory so you can fulfil launch demand immediately and present every pack consistently.

Pre-kitting removes last-minute assembly bottlenecks during a launch window, enables sample and PR distributions the moment you go live, and ensures every unit includes the correct inserts, labels and presentation. It also lets you run quality and test shipments before launch day, stage inventory for multiple channels (retail, ecommerce, PR) and respond quickly to spikes without scrambling to assemble orders on the day.

Can you use kitting for subscription boxes, gift sets, PR samples, or retail launches?

+

Yes. Kitting is widely used for subscriptions, gift sets, PR packs and retail launch inventory.

• Subscription boxes: Pre-kitting streamlines recurring shipments and seasonal promos.
• Gift sets & retail: Ensures retail presentation and consistent SKU packaging for shelves.
• PR/influencer samples: Small runs can be kitted with bespoke inserts and tracked distribution lists.

Kitting approach (pre-build vs on-demand) is chosen by volume, personalisation level and timing.

Can you assemble high-precision or luxury kits

+

Yes; luxury and high-precision kits are handled using experienced staff, stricter quality checks and controlled assembly processes.

Luxury builds typically require detailed build instructions, trained operators, careful handling (tamper-evident seals, protective inserts), and additional QC steps (visual inspection, photographic records, sample sign-offs). For premium retail or high-value launches we assign senior operators, use controlled kit zones, and run pre-production samples for client approval to eliminate surprises.
