A day in the life of…Kye Tigwell, Team Leader

Drawing on his background as a sports coach, Kye Tigwell, Team Leader at one of our warehouse facilities, ensures the order process from start to finish is smooth and efficient. We spoke to Kye about what he does, why he likes fulfilment and why teamwork is so important.

Q What does being a Team Leader entail?

A I oversee operations for all brands in our warehouse, with a primary focus on our pet food brand, Essential Foods. My responsibilities include coordinating the fulfilment process, picking and packing orders, and conducting weekly calls with the client to discuss upcoming events and marketing campaigns. Additionally, I handle pallet replenishment, ensuring optimal stock levels, proper stock rotation, and monitoring best before dates.

Q What does a typical day look like?

A As I mentioned, I am responsible for managing the fulfilment process for Essential Foods in our warehouse from the time an order hits the system to picking, packing and delivery. This involves using our warehouse management system to keep on top of things. It integrates with the ecommerce platforms of Essential Foods (and other clients), so we track everything in one place.

On a day-to-day basis I print the orders, assign the relevant staff to them and basically create a workflow to make sure the orders are packed effectively and ready for delivery. I also pick and pack orders for both Essential Foods and our other customers.

Q What did you do before joining Fullers Fulfilment?

A I started my career at Fullers about four and half years ago. Before then I worked in a care home and also as a sports coach, which I where I learned the importance of teamwork and motivation, and became comfortable leading a team.

Q What three characteristics do you think are vital for being Team Leader?

A Definitely attention to detail! This is especially important in picking and packing, and inventory management to make sure not only that the rights goods are being sent out but that they are of the right quality. The second thing is confidence; in leading a team and boosting morale and being able to identify your team’s strengths and then play to those. And the final thing is the ability to plan. What we do here is all about planning and organisation so this is vital.

Q Why do like working at Fullers?

A I really like working here because it’s calming and methodical. There is always a process. Of course there are also challenges and stressful times, such as the need to get orders out the door before the end of the day, but then there is also the satisfaction of achieving your goal, doing it well and having your team working well together.

I work with a great team here and work in a good environment, and that always makes a difference!

Q Tell us more about the your facility

A We host clients in electronics and health and beauty, but our main expertise is the pet supply industry. The warehouse has the perfect conditions for this, like ambient temperatures and hygienic spaces. We also count a number of organic brands as clients, and we have the right facilities and Soil Association certification in place to store that food and meet the required regulations.

Q What advice would you give to someone considering a career in fulfilment?

A I’ll mention an eye for detail again! That’s so important. But it also helps to be good with numbers and initiative. Sometimes we need to find an innovative solution to something so initiative always helps.

Q When you’re not working, what do you like to do?

A I love being outdoors. Whether that is mountain biking or golf, or in the warmer weather paddle boarding. Anything that takes me outside!
