Beyond Veganuary: Working towards a greener and kinder future
The month of ‘Veganuary’ might be drawing to a close but, here at Fullers Logistics, a greener and kinder way of working is set to continue. We have some innovative vegan businesses on board and we’re always striving to be a more environmentally friendly organisation ourselves.
What’s Veganuary again?
Just in case you don’t know, Veganuary is an annual challenge run by a UK non-profit organisation that promotes and educates about veganism by encouraging people to follow a vegan lifestyle for the month of January.
Plant-based trends are growing fast
The popularity of plant-based living is increasing rapidly – and not just in January. According to research from The Vegan Society, the number of vegans in Great Britain quadrupled between 2014 and 2019.
One major reason is that people are waking up to the impact that eating meat has on climate change.
A paper by the research journal Nature explains how one kilo of beef protein has a carbon opportunity cost of 1,250kg: that, incredibly, is roughly equal to driving a new car for a year, or to one passenger flying from London to New York and back!
Other motivations for people switching to a vegan way of life might include better health, or for moral reasons such as kindness towards animals.
Vegan lifestyle is big business
Global market research company Mintel has revealed that an immune-boosting vegan diet (with the added bonus of a typically longer shelf life) is proving more attractive to over one in ten (12%) of all Brits since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, rising to almost a quarter (22%) of Londoners.
Vegan Food & Living reports that, according to Google trends, veganism now gets almost four times more interest than vegetarian and gluten-free searches and the UK is now the global leader for vegan food launches.
Conscious beauty is the look of the future
Vegan beauty is no longer a ‘hippy’ trend that involves making face masks out of leftover porridge. The hashtag #veganbeauty has over 2 million posts (…and counting) on Instagram, so smart beauty brands are investing in the development of products that perform ethically as well as cosmetically.
Fullers Logistics is a multi-channel fulfilment and distribution company based near London and we’re proud to work with conscious beauty brands such as Fable & Mane. Their ayurvedic haircare products are not just plant-based but cruelty free. What’s more, The Fable Fund supports wildlife charities that restore habitats for endangered wild felines.
Our commitment to sustainability
As well as supporting a range of ethically-minded brands, Fullers is working towards certification with EcoVadis.
Since its founding in 2007, EcoVadis has grown to become the world’s largest and most trusted provider of business sustainability ratings, creating a global network of more than 65,000 rated companies.
Fullers is scored on the environmental impact of our business, as well as human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement impacts. With the support of EcoVadis, we look for ways to reduce risk, drive performance, and improve environmental and social outcomes.
We share their vision of “a global marketplace where sustainability intelligence influences every business decision – improving economies, people’s lives and the planet we all depend on”.
